I Love Colour!

Paintings by Sylvie Lalumière

Sylvie Lalumière

From an early age, I have always enjoyed working with colour and exploring different artistic media.

It all began with painting by numbers alongside my grandpapa, and countless hours spent colouring books with my treasured Prismacolor pencils.

In the 1990s, my passion led me to folk art and decorative painting. During this time, I learned a variety of painting techniques and began creating handmade accessories and small furniture pieces.

A turning point in my artistic journey came during a workshop at the Grimsby Art Gallery, where I was introduced to the basics of watercolour. That experience sparked a deeper love of painting and brought me to the Grimsby Pumphouse Artist Group—where I continue to paint regularly.

Although I am mostly self-taught, I have gained valuable knowledge and inspiration from local workshops with professional artists, classes at a senior centre, and countless YouTube tutorials.

Recently, I’ve started working with acrylics on canvas, drawn by the medium’s rich, vivid colours. I particularly enjoy painting landscapes—from scenes close to home to unforgettable views from travels across Europe.

Whether capturing the bold tones of Canadian native art or the soft textures of watercolour portraits, I find pure joy in painting wherever there is colour.
